Main Street Business

Corner of Main and Sheridan in late 1920's

The Main Street Corridor runs principally from University on the western edge to North on the eastern edge. There are over 100 businesses along the corridor providing a variety of goods and services. From ethnic restaurants to auto parts and detailing – we have it all! We are working hard to revitalize our Corridor and community support for our existing businesses is a key component.  Shop and dine locally right here in our neighborhood.  *Walk carefully ... we’re still working on streetscape changes.

Renaissance Park Main Street Retail Study

A group of students from Bradley University completed a consulting project with the Renaissance Park Commission in April 2009. A survey was sent out to Bradley students, faculty and staff, as well as West Bluff residents, in order to gain perspective on which steps could be taken to improve the perception and buying behavior of West Main Street. After completion and review of the survey, one thing was made clear; many people (64.5%) believe that there is potential for the Corridor to become a destination place if certain improvements are made.

The survey results suggest that safety, walkability and the addition of a bakery/café or a diner to the area would improve the economic vitality and atmosphere of the West Bluff.  Many people (40.9%) feel unsafe walking on Main Street overall, 64% of people questioned feel that the streetscape needs improvement and 35.5% feel that traffic is too fast for comfortable walking.  By reworking sidewalks, providing new lighting, updating landscaping and reconstructing the area, Main Street could become a popular destination.  In addition, because 45% of people questioned would likely use a bakery or a coffee shop and 47% would likely use a diner, the addition of one or both of these businesses to the area would be well received. For a detailed explanation of survey results, download the full report.

Relocate your Business to Main Street
Main Street has a long history of strong retail establishments. We have many locally-owned businesses and a strong sense of community in the West Bluff. The Main Street Corridor is anchored by Bradley University, OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Methodist Medical Center, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. The area is part of the Renaissance Park Master Plan
advocating a more walkable, urban environment. The City of Peoria conducted Traffic Studies in 2008 and are recommending infrastructure improvements to encourage a more pedestrian-friendly streetscape. Find out more below.
